SEDONA GREEN SOLUTIONS is a consulting and construction company that specializes in Renewable Energy initiatives and sustainable developments.
We offer consultation and design build services for new or existing projects and developments.

Our mission is to educate, introduce proven methods and technologies that enhance our appreciation of life while having a positive impact on the environment. We also promote the adoption of Renewable Energy policies and of higher energy standards for the Sedona community.

Alain Soutenet is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) Accredited Professional and an Energy Star Partner.

Born in France, Alain was raised in the rich culture that shaped his creative talents and his deep understanding of the impact our natural environment has on our well beings.

Through his extensive international travels and exposure to diverse cultures, he has developed an inner affinity with the serenity and calmness that emanates from Zen traditions and the contemporary trends that emphasize a minimalist yet warm approach to architectural design.

Alain is striving to apply the principles of sustainability, energy efficiency, health and respect for the environment into his projects.

SEDONA GREEN BUILDING PROGRAM

See the presentation made to the Environmental Committee for the City of Sedona in December 2008.

The program being currently drafted for City Council approval has 2 parts:

The first part is for the Sedona City Building Code to be amended to adopt changes concerning Green Building Requirements in line with the recommendations made in the presentation.

The second part is for the adoption of the International Energy Conservation Code into the City Documents as standard for compliance.

Sedona Contemporary Architecture

This is a brand new green, Energy Star compliant custom home in West Sedona. Designed by Simone Mussa of Lo_Dwn Design Studio, it is a contemporary, 3000 square feet, 3 stories luxury residence with 3 bedrooms, an entertainment room, independent in-law suite, abundant overhangs and over 900 sqft of decks with beautiful views of the red rocks. Each room, including the master bath, has an outdoor connection. The finishes include white quartzite stone veneer and tiles, mosaic in the bathrooms and engineered brazilian cherry hardwood flooring. The design of this home has been inspired by the works of the most prominent contemporary architects of the Southwest: Rick Joy and Wendell Burnette.

African Thatch & Adobe

This development in Southern Africa is an example of green eco-friendly ingenuity.
The main house's curved shape follows the contour of the hillside and expands the view in all directions. Ample overhangs and shaded porches connect the indoor and outdoor spaces for maximum enjoyment of the colonial lifestyle.
All materials were locally manufactured or produced from the surrounding villages.
The walls are made of adobe bricks made to order from local producers.
The roof framing and interior exposed beams and finishes are made of eucalyptus tree trunks that are grown in the area.
The thatched roof is nearly two feet thick and made of many thousands of 2" diameter bundles of special local grass that can only be harvested during the dry season. The women from several villages spent weeks of cutting, sorting and bundling what amounts to 20 truckloads of grass.
The doors and windows are hand crafted from local carpenters and blacksmiths.
Heating with firewood in the large fireplace in the living room heats up the whole house. Natural ventilation for cooling.
The complex includes a two story main house, a separate in-law unit, a garage/storage building, a cottage and 60' long lap pool.
The project was completed in 1998

Sedona Green Remodel

This home located in the renown Chapel area was built in 1969.
A new deck was added made of 100% recycled content to expand the views of surrounding red rocks.
South facing windows and sliding doors were replaced with Low-E, energy efficient glass.
All carpets and flooring were removed and new natural engineered bamboo flooring was installed.
R-19 insulation was added in the crawlspace.
No VOC (volatile organic compound) paints were used for a healthier indoor air quality.
The master bathroom was fully remodeled to comply with ADA standards.

The Elements on Oak Creek

The Elements is a development consisting of 5 large Estate lots located in a luscious valley where water abounds. Ten minutes drive from Sedona, the property which was once a 27-acre working farm, has been planned to allow for privacy, view and space. The land was split into 3 parcels, utilities and access easements were created, water, gas, sewer, electric. telephone and cable were installed underground to each parcel and a paved road was engineered and constructed.
